题目材料:
Most scholars view the Great Migration (1915 - 1927) as the key period in Black Americans' transformation from primarily rural to primarily urban dwellers but recognize that migration started much earlier. By 1905 Miller had already traced an increase in Black migration dating back to the 1870s. Miller viewed the trend with suspicion. He urged African Americans to remain in the South, arguing that skilled work in stable communities could be found there far more easily. Recent scholars, however, stresses that these early Black migrants were not condemning themselves to rootlessness. While obviously responding to the lure of urban employment, Black migrants also relied on family networks to sustain themselves in cities, to maintain contact with their rural origins, and to organize against racial discrimination.
